Newton, IA (Saturday, July 13, 2024) – Dale Coyne Racing’s Katherine Legge put in a solid performance for race one of the Iowa Speedway doubleheader weekend, taking the checkered flag in 17th place. Her teammate, Jack Harvey, who has been dealing with severe back and neck pain since the previous round at Mid-Ohio, retired from the race after 28 laps.

Race 2: qualified 25th
• Legge was taking part in her second NTT INDYCAR SERIES race this season, having competed at the Indianapolis 500 earlier this year.
• She qualified 26th for Race 1 earlier in the day and will be starting Race 2 from 25th.
• Legge had a great start to the 250-lap event, avoiding a crash ahead of her and moving up to 20th.
• The driver of the #51 e.l.f. Cosmetics machine kept up with her competitors, keeping eventual seventh place finisher Kyle Kirkwood behind her.
• She pit from 18th under yellow on Lap 84.
• Unfortunately for Legge, she received a drive through penalty for being ‘out of line’ on the Lap 94 restart.
• With Iowa Speedway being such a short track, the penalty sent her a couple of laps down into 21st place.
• Legge continued to run strong the remainder of the event and while the penalty cost her dearly, she was able to move up more positions and cross the checkered flag in 17th.
Post Race Quote
“I’m really grateful to the Dale Coyne Racing e.l.f. crew for giving me a really good car. Honeslty, I think had things fallen a bit differently we could have been fighting up there at the shapt end. I made a few mistakes just kind of finding my feet in an IndyCar again. I love IndyCar racing, it was really to get a full race lenthe under my betl. I know the car is really good for tomorrow. We’ll take everything we learned today and hopefully make a top 12 tomorrow.”
Jack Harvey, #18 INVST, Dale Coyne Racing Honda
Started: 18th
Finished: 25th
• Harvey, who was making his first oval start of the season today, had a good qualifying session earlier in the day, placing his car 18th on the starting grid for both Race 1 and 2.
• Unfortunately for Harvey who has been struggling with severe neck and back pain, he had to retire early.
Conor Daly – on substituting for Jack Harvey in Race 2 on Sunday
“I obviously feel bad taking on this role, you hate to see it for Jack. He’s one of my closest friends here. I’ve been in the 18 car before, oddly enough it had a similar paint scheme as my rookie year here with this same race team so it brings back a lot of memories. I just want to do the best I can for everyone here. Everyone that supports this group, all the people that have put in the work so far this season. This is a track that I love. That I’m very familiar with. Obviously, the new surface is something I’m going to have to learn on the fly and it’s the first time in the hybrid car. I just appreciate everyone getting me up to speed as best they can, and we’ll obviously go after it. I don’t know what’s going to happen, we’ll just do the best we can with what we’ve got.”
